After spending most of his career plying his trade as a baker, Glenn decided in 2017 that it was time for a change and made his way into the Sarina Russo Job Access Hervey Bay office where he met Employment Consultant, Kirsty Marwick.
“Glenn had worked for years as a qualified baker and then later he worked for Bundaberg Sugar and in meat and dairy production,” Kirsty said.
“He was very keen for a career change and as a very committed volunteer at the local bowls club he felt as though he would like to work in a role assisting people within the community.
“So, we assisted him to enroll into Cert III Individual Support and he attained all of the theory units and attended some vocation placement at a local respite centre in early 2017.“
It was then that fate intervened, and a serious shoulder injury sidelined him for 12 months and as such, curtailed his ability to complement his hours.
However, the 62-year-old’s determination shone through and again with the support of Kirsty, Glenn re-enrolled in his vocational placement of 120 hours and at the completion was offered permanent part time employment at Torbay Aged Care & Retirement Village.
“Glenn is loving life working in his new career as a personal support worker and still has plenty of time to keep working on his bowls game,” Kirsty said.
