Developing Tradespeople of the Future

Formerly known as I Am Eco Plumbing, Laser Plumbing Newcastle Central is a local, family-run business, serving Newcastle, the Hunter Region, Central Coast and Port Stephens.

The company director, Ian, has developed a real passion to provide professional & reliable plumbing service in his hometown and Sarina Russo Apprenticeships have been working in partnership with him for several years, delivering training and support for their apprentices.

"I have been a plumber for over 30 years and still love the trade and am grateful to have a job that challenges and stretches me to continually learn and improve. It has given me the opportunity to work in teams, learn from others, work while travelling and now run a family business", he says.

Laser Plumbing Newcastle Central has worked with great local organisations and businesses to create systems that operate safely and efficiently. With the industry expected to benefit from rising demand from the residential building market (IbisWorld), the need for more tradespeople have grown and with the demand expected to continue to rise, Laser Plumbing is excited about the opportunity to build a skilled workforce.

When asked why he chooses to take on apprentices and trainees at Laser Plumbing, Ian shares.

"I enjoy bringing the apprentices through and developing them into confident skilled tradespeople. One of our company’s core values is to produce outstanding and knowledgeable tradespeople. We like to engage at least 1 new apprentice a year and have had good success with a mix of school leavers and mature-age apprentices. It is vitally important that businesses are regularly engaging and committing to training apprentices to ensure the trade is being supported, the skills shared, and we are developing the tradespeople of our future. The plumbing trade is broad and there are so many avenues and opportunities once you are a skilled tradesperson".
